+2 Internal Marks Awarding - Instructions - DGE Proceedings

Instructions and guidelines from the Director of Government Examinations regarding the awarding of internal assessment marks to +2 students!

For the 2024–2025 academic year, the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Tamil Nadu, follows established protocols for awarding internal marks in the Higher Secondary (+2) examinations.

The internal assessment is structured to evaluate consistent student performance throughout the year rather than a single terminal exam.

1. Internal Mark Components (Total 10 Marks)

Internal marks for all subjects (Theory and Practical-based) are generally calculated out of 10 marks based on the following criteria:

Attendance (2 Marks): Awarded based on the percentage of student attendance throughout the academic session.

Internal Tests/Assignments (4 Marks): Derived from the average scores of periodic internal assessments or mid-term tests conducted by the school. Co-curricular/Practical Activities (4 Marks): Evaluation of student participation in projects, field trips, seminars, or practical record maintenance. 2. Subjects with Practical Exams

For subjects involving practicals (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology), the marks are split as follows:

Theory: 70 Marks.

Practical Exam: 20 Marks.

Internal Assessment: 10 Marks.

Total: 100 Marks.

Note: While there is no minimum pass mark for internal assessment, a candidate must be present for the practical examination to be eligible for marks.

3. Recording and Uploading Marks

DGE proceedings mandate strict adherence to administrative protocols for data integrity:

Confidentiality: Marks awarded by internal examiners must be entered into a dedicated register and kept under the personal custody of the Headmaster.

Online Uploading: Schools are required to upload Continuous Evaluation (CE) scores and internal marks onto the DGE Tamil Nadu portal within the stipulated timeframe set by the examination calendar.

Verification: Once uploaded, internal marks cannot be altered without high-level authorization from the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) or DGE. 4. Key Regulations for 2025

Private Candidates: Internal marks are generally not applicable to direct private candidates. Their results are typically calculated based on their performance in the theory/practical examinations alone.

Pass Criteria: To pass the +2 exam, a student must secure a minimum of 35 marks out of 100 in each subject.

Attendance Requirement: Students with less than 75% attendance may be restricted from appearing for the board examinations unless a condonation is granted.
