PRESS NOTE ON STATE CYBER CRIME WING, ASHOK NAGAR, CHENNAI
The Tamil Nadu State Cyber Crime Wing is functioning at Ashok Nagar, Chennai.
It is headed by the Additional Director General of Police, Tr.Sanjay Kumar IPS., and assisted by 3 SPs viz Ms. N.Devarani IPS., Tr. K. Stalin, Tr. D. Ashok Kumar. It is the apex unit for cyber crime co-ordination in the state. SP-I is the State Nodal officer for all social media platforms and empowered with sec 79(3)(b) of IT Amendment Act, 2008.
The State Nodal sends request for blocking illegal contents in social media & other platforms. The Cyber Crime Wing has blocked illegal contents such as fake or impersonating accounts, fraudulent websites, videos or posts inciting communal violence and also videos spreading fake news about dignitaries such as the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ministers, and other high-ranking officials.
In the year 2023 (01.01.2023 to 03.05.2023), the Cyber Crime Wing has blocked 40 illegal post/content in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.,
It has sent request to YouTube to block 386 defaming videos of the dignitaries of Tamil Nadu such as Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ministers and also general public. The Cyber Crime Wing has also removed 221 illegal Loan Apps from the Google Play Store and sent requests to remove additional 61 Loan Apps to protect the public from being trapped by these illegal apps which has not been approved by the RBI.
