ORDER:

The Election Commission of India has notified 23.04.2026 (Thursday) as the poll day for the General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 2026. Hence, the poll day on 23.04.2026 (Thursday) has to be declared as public holiday under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881).

2. The following Notification shall be published in an extra-ordinary issue of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated 26.03.2026. Notification

Under the "Explanation" to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act, XXVI of 1881) read with the Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs No. 20-25-26, Public-1, dated the 8th June 1957, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby declares Thursday, the 23rd April 2026, the date on which the poll for the General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 2026 will take place in Tamil Nadu, to be a Public Holiday. வருகின்ற ஏப்ரல் 2026-ல் நடைபெற உள்ள தமிழ்நாடு சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலை முன்னிட்டு, வாக்குப்பதிவு நடைபெற உள்ள ஏப்ரல் 23-ஆம் தேதி (23-04-2026) அன்று தமிழக அரசு பொது விடுமுறை அளித்து அரசாணை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.
