Key Details of the Amendment

As per the amendment to Instruction No. (ii) in the Annexure of G.O.(Ms) No.111, the sanctioning authority for the TAPS interim monthly payout / family payout is structured as follows:

Category of Government Servant Competent Authority for Sanction
(a) Head of Department (HOD) Government of Tamil Nadu
(b) All Other Eligible Government Servants Head of Office / Service Book Maintaining Authority
"The competent authority for the purpose of sanction of interim monthly payout / family payout shall be (a) Government in the case of Head of Department, and (b) Head of Office / Service Book Maintaining Authority in the case of all other eligible Government servants."

Why is this Order Important?

Under the newly introduced Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS), eligible government employees under CPS who retired on or after 01.01.2026 are entitled to receive an interim monthly payout equal to 30% of basic pay (minimum ₹10,000) + 60% DR until full TAPS rules are finalized.

This official amendment ensures smooth processing of claims by clearly defining that local Heads of Offices and Service Book Maintaining Authorities can directly sanction payouts for regular staff without sending unnecessary files to higher departments, accelerating the payout timeline.
