Greater Chennai Corporation Tamil Nadu State Election Commission Polling Personnel - Formation of Committee for Scrutiny of Election Duty exemption applications-Orders Issued.

Read: Press Release of Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, dated: 26.01.2022.

ORDER:

Vide reference 1 cited, the Tamil Nadu Election Commission has announced the date of urban local body Elections and Model code of conduct is in force. It is stated that as per Rule 13 of TamilNadu Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations (Elections) Rules, 2006 the District Election Officer is empowered to appoint any State Government or Central Government employee as Polling Personnel.

In this regard, it is further stated that the total requirement of Polling

Personnel for Chennai district is 30,000+. It is further stated that the categories of employees for whom exemption can be given by the employer are as follows,

A Any official to be retired within 6 months may be exempted from election related duty. ii) All pregnant women and lactating mothers (child less than 1 year). whether on maternity leave or not or who mare otherwise on medical advice not to undertake any rigorous or hazardous work, may be exempted from election related duty, Persons with Disabilities Physically challenged persons with disabilities may be exempted from the election related duty,

iv) Serious Medical Ailments such as Cancer, dialysis etc.

In this regard, in order to scrutinize and pass orders on the Polling Personnel election duty exemption requests a Committee is hereby constituted with the following members The Committee members in the cadre of Deputy Collector or Tahsildar are hereby empowered to scrutinize the Polling Personnel Election duty exemption seeking applications and can reject the applications if the reasons stated for exemption are not in consonance with the norms of the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission.

The Chairman and Member - Secretary are hereby empowered to accept the exemption request of any Polling Personnel after getting suitable alternative from the concerned department.

The specific members of the Committee in the cadre of Deputy Collectors and Tahsildar can be appointed by the District Collector.

This order takes effect forthwith.
